Most freelance rate calculators get it backwards. They ask about your expenses, your desired income, your vacation weeks — reasonable questions, but they don't tell you what the market actually pays for your skills. They're budgeting tools, not pricing tools.

TransparentRate starts from the other end: what employers actually pay people with your skills. Most estimates begin with a direct U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics occupation or a disclosed BLS proxy; a small number use clearly labeled model estimates where no suitable BLS benchmark exists. We then apply a transparent set of multipliers to convert the benchmark into sustainable freelance rates.

No black boxes. No crowdsourced guesses. No "what feels right." Just data, disclosed assumptions, and a clear methodology you can verify yourself.

Why this calculator is different

🏛️ BLS-Backed

Most occupations use direct May 2025 U.S. BLS OEWS benchmarks or disclosed BLS proxies. The few occupations without a suitable BLS category are clearly labeled model estimates.

🔍 100% Transparent

Every multiplier, every assumption is disclosed right below your results. The freelance conversion factor, experience adjustments, client-market modifiers — all spelled out. No black box.

🌍 Global Coverage

157 countries and territories with five localization tiers. Each tier explains how the U.S. occupation benchmark is converted or adjusted for that market; occupation-source confidence is shown separately.
