Evidence-based freelance planning

Modeled Freelance Benchmark

Start with reviewed local employee-wage data when it is available for your work. Otherwise, use a clearly labeled U.S.-based international reference as a separate planning point.

Lower, median, and upper are points in the employee-wage data—not freelancer-rate percentiles or career levels.

Choose the work

Search any supported title. We match your job title to the closest occupation in our wage database.

Searches 98 core occupations and 1,794 active aliases.

Choose your country

Your country determines which wage information we can show and which currency to use. It does not estimate your personal costs.

Determines whether reviewed local wage data can be shown, how the source is presented, and the display currency. It does not estimate your taxes, expenses, cost of living, or personal minimum.
Optional Quoting Guidance

Engagement context Optional

These details can help you think about your quote, but they do not change the underlying wage benchmark.

Gross-up only. A fee never reduces the benchmark.
Project circumstances
Compare with your personal minimum Optional

The occupation benchmark estimates a market reference. This separate calculation uses only the financial assumptions you enter.

What this benchmark does—and does not—tell you

  • Official employee-wage values and our modeled freelance planning estimates are shown separately.
  • The 1.75 coefficient is applied once. It is a planning assumption to help translate an employee-wage reference into a freelance planning estimate; it does not predict your individual rate.
  • Your project scope, urgency, client, fees, and negotiation position can affect a quote, but they do not rewrite the benchmark.
  • When local data is unavailable or cannot be used reliably, we say so and keep the international reference separate.
  • Source units stay in their original hourly, weekly, monthly, or annual form. We do not turn them into hourly values just to make a comparison look simpler.
